On April 22 of this year, the Legislative Plenary of the Republic of El Salvador approved the Personal Data Protection Law, which will enter into force one year after its publication in the Official Gazette.

One of the objectives is to guarantee that every persona can exercise the right to know their information, what it is used for, as well as its protection, correction, rectification or updating, within public or private institutions.

Likewise, sanctioning procedures and their respective infractions are established in case these provisions are violated, from fault, severe and very severe fines.

Previously, Habeas Data was only regulated within the Constitution of the Republic as the right to privacy and intimacy of the person, International Agreements to which El Salvador is adhered, Law of Access to Public Information and other secondary regulations depending on The matter.
