On March 31, 2023, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, through the Food Department, gave a webinar entitled “Nutrition Labeling”, the objective of which was to indicate the minimum requirements that must be met by nutritional labeling of food products for human consumption intended for the population.

Nutrition Labeling is regulated in RTCA 67.01.60:10 Nutrition Labeling of Prepackaged Food Products for Human Consumption for the Population Aged 3 Years and Older, and indicates in summary the following:

 The purpose of the RTCA is to provide an effective and standardized means of reporting the nutrient content of foods to ensure that nutrition information is not presented that is in any way false, misleading, deceptive, misleading or meaningless.

 It is also intended to facilitate the consumer’s understanding of the information related to the nutritional value of the food and to assist the consumer in interpreting the nutrient declaration.

 This regulation also indicates that it applies to the labeling of pre-packaged food products that include nutritional information, nutritional or health claims of the food, sold directly for human consumption and marketed in the territory of Central American countries.

 The Regulation also mentions that fermented and distilled alcoholic beverages are excluded from the scope of application.

The aforementioned regulation is in force as of March 16, 2021.
