The Guatemalan Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, through the Department of Regulation and Control of Pharmaceutical and Related Products, issued last May 10, 2023 the UAS-06-2023 release, in which they inform the Cosmetic Products Labeling Guidelines.
The purpose of this document is to communicate the evaluation criteria for the approval of the Labeling of Cosmetic Products, in order to comply with the legislation in force.
This document mainly contemplates the following points:
A) Products that do not require to declare expiration date or Period After Opening (PAO), mentioning within these:
- Cosmetic products that are for single use.
- Cosmetic products with low risk of deterioration.
- Non-perishable personal hygiene products.
- Cosmetic products that are not opened, in the case of containers where there is no possibility of contact between the product and the external environment.
B) Products that are not required to declare expiration or best-before date:
- This applies to cosmetic products that have a shelf life greater than 30 months and whose composition does not meet the criteria established in item A of the communication. In this case the product must declare on the label the period after opening.
C) Products containing allergens as part of their composition:
- They may be consigned in the labeling of the product containing them as consumer safety information, denominating them within their qualitative formula only as “fragrance”.
