This March 25, 2020, the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua approved the reform of Law 354 Law on Invention Patents, Utility Model (sic) and Industrial Designs, in order to adjust and modernize the national legal framework as well as well as the rates for the services provided by the Directorate of Patents and New Technologies.
The reform is focused on updating the rates, which are established as follows:
- Invention patent application
-For the first twenty claims $CA 240.00
-For each additional claim at 20 $CA 20.00
- b) Utility model patent application $CA 140.00
- c) Application for registration of industrial design:
— for each subclass $CA 70.00
— for each design within the subclass $CA 70.00
- d) Request for compensation term $CA 150.00
- e) Request for conversion of utility model patent application to invention patent $CA 150.00
- f) Request for conversion of invention patent application to utility model patent $CA 60.00
- g) Each fractional application in case of division of an application $CA 50.00
- h) Request regarding a modification, change, change of legal representative or proxy, correction, transfer or license $CA 60.00

The amount determined in Central American Pesos will be paid in national currency, applying the exchange rate that the Central Bank of Nicaragua will set on the date of the transaction.
This reform to Law 354 and its regulations will enter into force when so indicated by the National Assembly or when it is published in La Gaceta, Official Gazette.
