The Economic Commission of the Legislative Assembly has advanced in the approval of several modifications to the Telecommunications Law and the Consumer Protection Law. The objective of this law is to seek the protection of consumer rights.

On Tuesday, February 26, the deputies progressed in the development of 18 initiatives that contain reform proposals for consumer protection, these will entail the application of sanctions to telephone companies based on the degree of affectation, the intention or seriousness of the offender, with fines that could be around $11 or more.

These sanctions will be applied together with the sentences issued by the Supreme Court of Justice in proportion to the magnitude of the damage caused, this is with the objective of stopping the abuses that the telephone companies may be carrying out on the users.

According to the deputy Margarita de Escobar, president of this legislative table, with these modifications, the law will be “a third generation reform. We are really doing something profound that will safely help users of telephone, internet and cable services.”
