New arrivals – July 3, 2019

We would like to inform you that on June 27, 2019, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Guatemala issued the REGULATION OF CONVENTION 175 OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION-ILO, ABOUT PART-TIME WORK, through Government Agreement 89-2019, which will enter into force on July 05, 2019.

Said Regulation establishes that all employers can hire their staff full or part-time, respecting the Labor Code or the ILO Convention, and that part-time workers have the right to receive a salary on an hourly basis, which may not be less than the minimum wage set per hour for each year.

For the year 2019 the Salary for hour is:

The transfer of a full-time worker to part-time or vice versa will be allowed, as long as it is voluntary, for which they can carry out a modification of the Work Contract and notify the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare in Guatemala.

Likewise, the part-time worker will enjoy all the rights established by the laws regarding labor and social security, so that benefits such as Bonus 14, Christmas Bonus, and Vacations will be determined proportionally.
