On June 15, 2022, the President of the Republic, Rodrigo Chaves, and the Minister of Health, Joselyn Chacón, signed a decree so that the Ministry of Health can standardize or recognize the health registrations of medicines, granted by the regulatory authorities that are members of the International Council for the Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceutical Products for Human Use (ICH), which could increase the supply of medicines in the country and eventually reduce high prices, the same decree that came into force as of the month of January 2023, so users can already request it.

The Minister of Health, Josselyn Chacón Madrigal, assured that, "The sanitary registries of medicines approved with the regulatory authorities of the ICH guarantee a level of protection and risk prevention equal to or higher than that allowed by the Costa Rican institutions and regulations on the matter, which constitutes a strategy to guarantee the access and availability of quality, safe and effective products”.

This recognition must be requested before the Ministry of Health through the platform register it www.registrelo.go.cr; and it is expected that the term for the processing of the homologation requests will be 30 working days.
